Opened in 1791, the University of Vermont is a public university in Burlington and one of the oldest universities in the US. One of the schools designated a “Public Ivy” university, UVM is home to 12 colleges and schools conferring undergraduate degrees in over 100 majors. The rural campus is sprawled across 460 acres, and features a new STEM complex, an on-campus medical center, plus four research farms. It is situated near Lake Champlain, as well as within driving distance of the Adirondack Mountains, which feature biking and hiking trails. Accordingly, students can rent equipment like canoes, skis, and snowshoes on campus.
